Wellness Program is based upon the evolving science of self-care management.
Self- care management includes the decisions and behaviors an employee takes to improve their health. Literature informs us that employees want more information, choice and control over their health.
There is growing evidence that supporting self-care management leads to:
1. Improved health and quality of life
2. Significant impact of the use of medical services, with fewer primary care visits, reduced visits to outpatients, and decreased use of hospital resources.
Factors that contribute to employees making good self-care management decisions include:
• Knowledge about self-care
• Culture, values and belief
• Confidence that they can perform healthy self-care behaviors
• Perceived control over health
• Availability of real, personalized choices
• Perceived benefits of maintaining or changing self-care decisions
These factors provide the framework for individualized teaching and coaching of employees.
